In response to yesterday's magnitude 7.3 (reported as 7.2) earthquake in Turkey yesterday, I have updated my standard celeration chart of earthquakes per year greater than or equal to magnitude 7.0. We are 10.75 months into this year so the trend and higher point for 2011 is based on interpolation from the 34 (marked as well) that have occurred so far - bringing it up to a predicted 38 this year. The X's mark the highest magnitude (X10 for visual clarity) for the year which marks a cessation in montonic increases back to the 2009 year high of 8.1. The blow up of the unlined reveals a slight downturn in the acceleration projected for this year but unless that downturn turns down faster, we will be seeing a massive earthquake every 3-4 days within a decade.
